My Son purchased a vehicle from a Car Dealer in Christchurch for $19,000, when he got it back to Wellington he realised the Transmission was making an unusual noise over 60kph.
We had the vehicle checked out by an Automatic Transmission Specialist and he confirmed there was a problem.
When we contacted the Car Dealer they claimed it was fine when they drove it and really didn’t want to know about it.
I had my Lawyer right them a letter but still got no satisfactory response from them.
The Vehicle came with a mechanical breakdown and repair insurance policy but the policy stated it didn’t cover existing issues but the Dealer insisted we make a claim and it would be covered.
The Automatic Transmission Specialist suggested I contact Karl at Auto Assess Ltd to see whether he could assist us, Karl drove the car and confirmed there was an existing issue with the Transmission.
Karl wrote to the Insurance Company but they wouldn’t confirm they would cover the repair and wanted the Transmission stripped down even though there was no parts available to make any repairs.
Karl then wrote to the Car Dealer stating that the Insurance Company wouldn’t confirm that they would cover the repair cost and that they need to replace the Transmission with one of similar milage or we were rejecting the car under the Consumers Guarantee Act and they could take the Car back and refund the $19,000.
Shortly after they received Karls letter they agreed to pay for the nearly $5,000 repair.
If it wasn’t for Karl I think we would be still trying to get a resolution so many thanks to Karl at Auto Assess Ltd.
